Toast
The most elegant breakfast stop in Metro Detroit (according to them) has two locations, one right in the heart of downtown Birmingham and the other in Ferndale. Toast specializes in fresh takes on breakfast staples, like their greek omelette with toasted pine nuts. Lavish is the name of almost every game at Toast, and don’t be surprised by the designer cheeses and curious seasonings included in many of the dishes. In a nutshell, it’s a pretty fabulous place for an open-minded appetite.
Steve’s Deli
If noshing on overstuffed and overpriced sandwiches and slurping salty soup is your thing, Steve’s is your Kotel. This restaurant has won a ton of awards (though we’re not sure why) and offers everything you need to feel like you’re back in your Bubbe’s kitchen, without the guilt trip about how long it has been since you last visited.
Woodbridge Pub
Woodbridge Pub is a flavorful joint located in the Woodbridge neighborhood. The name is less than clever, we know, but the menu and drink selection is anything but ordinary. The ambience is pretty chill, but be prepared to use your “outdoor” voice: the ceilings are high and noise bounces off of every surface.
New York Bagel Baking Co.
You’re helping mom prep for Sunday morning brunch by running out to pick up the bagels. Where might you go, you ask? New York Bagel makes a delicious lineup of bagels, always hot and always fresh. These are not the “pretend you’re a bagel, but really I’m a lump of dough” that you can find at Einstein’s or Bruegerr’s (both good, but not what your looking for when you want a good shmear and heap of tuna.) No, New York Bagel provides you with the ideal crisp crust perfect amount of breaded inside to make the perfect sandwich. Also enjoy their counter of fresh fish and lox, and array of shmears and spreads.
